Get to know Jim
Originally hailing from Northeast Ohio, Jim started playing in Western New York in 2000 with the Empire Statesmen. This led to Jim relocating to Buffalo in 2004 and starting with the PTB in the fall of 2005.
Through his early career, Jim studied with David Borsvold at Baldwin-Wallace College Conservatory of Music, Dr. Gary Bird and Dr. Christian Dickinson at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and John Turk at Youngstown State University.
While at IUP, Jim’s playing career started at America’s Rollercoast Cedar Point where he would entertain park guests during the summer college breaks. While at Youngstown State, he was a founding member of the Mill Creek Arts Ensemble brass quintet.
Jim continues to explore music in multiple amateur and professional groups including the Erie County Wind Ensemble and the Buffalo Silver Band. Jim’s drum and bugle corp career has included member and/or instructor positions with The Bluecoats, Empire Statesmen, Erie Thunderbirds, Ghost Riders, The Edge, Opus 7 (Renegades), and Bluecoats Alumni.
Jim lives in Penfield, NY with his wife Tina and their twin boys.
